Artist led workshop: Tim Harper
September 8, 1–3pm
Join Building Worlds artist Tim Harper for an exciting hands-on experience! Explore the intersection of art and engineering when you learn to create your own kinetic art box. Using balsa wood, dowels, and other simple materials, you will learn how a simple wheel and axle can be used to produce a variety of movements and mechanisms. Use your crankable creation to spin a mini umbrella, bounce a googly monster, or do whatever else you can dream up! (Please note: Parents will need to assist children with the creation of their sculpture, and children must be accompanied by a participating adult. Adults may come on their own and do not need to be accompanied by a child, it will be fun for everyone). Ages 6 and up. Registration coming soon.
Artist led workshop: Rachel Guardiola
September 15, 1–3pm
Join Building Worlds artist Rachel Guardiola for a super-sensory, hands-on experience. Workshop attendees will use all five senses to create one of a kind works of art inspired by Guardiola’s artwork on display in the gallery, examining the role of science fiction, science fact, and fantasy as a source of inspiration for artists and the changing nature of our relationship to our fears, ideals, and questions about being human. Workshop fees include all supplies and light refreshments. Ages 18 and up. Registration coming soon.
