Explore More! – Art Buckets

Explore More! is a self-guided program designed for preschool and elementary-level children. They contain an Explore More Gallery Guide featuring suggested learning and looking activities in the gallery, and art materials to create projects that are developmentally appropriate for young audiences. Children take their creations home as a visual reminder of the day’s exploration. Have a look at this example of the guide from the Shih Chieh Huang exhibition below.

The Explore More! Learning Center at GRACE is open whenever the gallery is open to the public (Tuesdays – Saturdays from 11am – 5pm). You may drop in during gallery hours without a reservation. Explore More! Buckets are not available during exhibition installation periods. Please check our calendar before planning your visit. Explore More! is a self-directed program; parents use the materials in the buckets to engage their children with the exhibition and the creative projects. Parents or a responsible adult or teen must be present for this program.

Larger groups should call to make a reservation (703-471-9242). This ensures proper working space for the art-making activities. There is a $5 material fee per bucket.

Why Visit Explore More!?

Explore More! helps children to expand their visual literacy and critical thinking skills when looking at and talking about art. They can do so in the welcoming environment GRACE provides for individuals and groups to explore contemporary art and art-making activities.

Your child will love playing with the art materials, and you can enjoy your child’s creativity without making a mess at home!

Finally, your visit supports GRACE’s mission of enriching community life by promoting involvement and excellence in contemporary visual arts.
